Tom Murphy offers thirty years of leadership building management teams for healthcare and life sciences companies. He started his executive search career at Boyden International before moving to San Diego with Russell Reynolds Associates. While there, Tom was recruited by his client Advanced Tissue Sciences (NASDAQ: ATIS), an early stage tissue engineering company that went through a period of high growth during the seven years he spent as Recruiting Manager. Returning to the retained search sector in 1998, Tom has served as a Partner at three executive search firms and led the Bioscience Practice at two of those firms. Tom is able to couple a startup mentality and experience working internally at a public company, with invaluable knowledge gained from building dozens of companies in the biopharma, medical device, diagnostics, life science tools and services sector, all with a commitment to life saving treatments for patients. Over the years, Tom has established a reputation with clients as a partner they can trust, who goes the extra mile to find the best leaders and cultural fit for private early stage and large public companies.
Tom is a San Diego native and a graduate of the University of California. He served for a number of years on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Venture Group, San Diego Social Venture Partners (Chair), Voices for Children and the La Jolla High Foundation. Tom and his wife Elaine live in La Jolla and have three sons in their twenties.
