Successful Calibre One CTO Placement At Accela

Accela, a longtime permitting and licensing platform vendor for government, has hired a new chief technology officer amid its continued push toward the cloud.

Renato Mascardo, who has worked in the technology industry for more than 20 years, will step in as CTO. Mascardo has held roles at Rosetta Stone, Atari and Hewlett-Packard; his most recent role was CTO for subscription billing management company Recurly.

Concurrent with Mascardo’s hiring, the company highlighted some figures illustrating its progress in moving its business toward the cloud. In 2018, according to the statement, 80 percent of Accela’s new customers chose cloud solutions. As of the announcement, about two-thirds of the company’s customers are in the cloud.

In recent years, Accela has been expanding from its traditional identity as a platform company, releasing several applications that have focused on emerging regulatory areas such as short-term rentals and cannabis and hemp licensing.

The company also recently hired a new CEO, former Mozilla leader Gary Kovacs.
