Company’s unique combination of regional expertise, deep industry knowledge, and broad talent networks provides engine for substantial growth.

Calibre One, a premier global executive search firm specializing in building senior leadership teams within innovative areas of technology, is poised to continue its remarkable global growth path, with added expansion in China. The company was recently listed at number 21 on the Hunt Scanlon List of Top 50 Recruiters in recognition of its overall 27 percent year-over-year growth and consistent success in building senior management teams.

“Many companies continue to look toward global expansion, particularly in China,” said James Brocket, Managing Partner of Calibre One in London. “Our goal remains to provide some of the most innovative companies around the world with the best leaders – regardless of location – by leveraging our local expertise and global reach. Our network, developed over nearly 20 years, is one of our greatest assets in allowing us to deliver outstanding results for our clients across the world.”

Healthy Growth Still Projected in China

Despite a slowing growth rate, China’s economic growth is still at a healthy level compared to other countries. China’s economy grew at an annual rate of 6.7% in the first quarter of the year. It is the slowest quarterly growth in seven years, but is still an impressive pace that many major economies envy.

“China will continue to be a major growth driver for many multinational corporations,” said James Gathercole, Partner of Calibre One in Shanghai. “In addition, the government appears to be genuinely committed to making a serious and sustained contribution to creating a culture of innovation in China through continued investments, strategic partnerships, and trade agreements.”

The region also continues to demonstrate its influence over the global technology sector. According to the February 2016 Electronic Component Manufacturing Research Report, China has become the world’s largest manufacturing center for electronic products, such as televisions, computers, smartphones, and other popular consumer electronic devices. Consequently, China’s output of electronic components is the highest in the world.

Calibre One in Asia

Calibre One first opened its Asia Pacific practice in 2012 and in the past few years the company has opened offices in Singapore and Shanghai.

In 2015, Calibre One appointed James Gathercole as Partner – China, based in Shanghai. Gathercole spent over 15 years living and working in China, and speaks fluent Mandarin, as well as some Cantonese and Shanghainese. He previously established, and led, Heidrick & Struggles in China. His applied experience is invaluable to understanding the unique challenges related to adjusting to life in China and navigating the cultural complexities in the workplace, along with family transition issues.

“James brings a valuable combination of industry expertise, longevity in the search market, and a deep understanding of the cultural sensitivities required to be successful in China,” said Brocket. “As a result, our business in China is off to a great start and poised for significant growth.”

Calibre One has completed a number of successful placements of senior executives in key roles for a variety of North American and European technology companies operating in China. Current clients include electronics manufacturers, enterprise software and technology service companies. Going forward, Calibre One intents to expand its focus in Asia into all specialist areas of expertise the firm has developed in its core markets of Europe and the U.S. These include consumer internet, enterprise software, cleantech, healthtech, and expertise in helping major enterprises across all sectors drive transformation in their businesses through the use of digital technologies.

“Finding great executive leaders to work for companies operating in China is about much more than just relevant work experience,” Gathercole added. “There are many nuances in managing the work environment. In manufacturing, for instance, the scale of the labor force can be enormous. There are companies that have 50,000 employees in a single campus. We have an intimate understanding of the type of specific leadership skills it takes to be successful in this type of environment.”

Unique Values of Calibre One

Calibre One has a single practice structure that enables it to benefit from global teams that can work together seamlessly without worrying about geographic P&Ls, allowing it to develop talent across North America, Europe, and Asia, regardless of client location. Calibre One is also the only boutique search firm with a truly global presence. As a result, there are fewer “off-limits” candidates, resulting in a larger and deeper ecosystem of talent.

Calibre One has also just launched its enhanced website to better serve its clients around the globe.  The new modernized site is fully mobile ready and performs significantly faster, with Google PageSpeed Insights scores of 97 for mobile and desktop. The company will continue to add new thought leadership through its Insights section.
