Education: B.S., space physics, Peking University; M.S., environmental science, Peking University; M.S., computer science, University of Nevada, Reno; Ph.D., atmospheric science, University of Nevada, Reno; Executive Program, Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Elizabeth Xu joined BMC Software Inc. less than six months ago but is already making waves there. She helped BMC launch a successful user conference, is focusing on unifying the teams of a company in transition, and wants to increase the transparency, visibility and predictability of its software.

Xu has parlayed her childhood desire to become a scientist into a 20-year career as an award-winning engineering executive and business leader. Before joining BMC, she was the vice president of product engineering at Acxiom.

Xu is also a teacher and author. Since 2011, she has taught Ten Steps to a Successful Career for Stanford Continuing Studies. Using the same concepts, she co-published Myths of the Promotion: 10 Steps to a Successful Career in 2012. She holds one patent and has won awards for her leadership and community service from IBM and her alma mater Peking University.
